Today I will write about how to be careful on the Internet and the various aspects that you should be vigilant about. What to watch out for? Primarily scams and traps that can ensnare unsuspecting users. Because I’ve been dealing with these issues since I started working seriously online, I have gathered valuable insights into the red flags to identify. The more time spent at the computer, the more you encounter scammers and strange individuals who prey on the unsuspecting. It’s a digital jungle out there, full of pitfalls ranging from phishing emails to deceitful websites that look legitimate. I will share how I navigated these treacherous waters, the lessons I’ve learned through experience, and the steps you can take to protect yourself from falling victim to online fraud.
First of all, there’s a lot of spam everywhere. Without appropriate plugins and so-called “puzzles” are hard to figure out. It’s worth taking a look around WordPress and installing the appropriate tools. I won’t write which ones I use. I’ll just write to read the opinions and search for “WordPress security”. WordPress is a great system and has the most possibilities. Here you will find plugins for everything. There are many paid and many free, and some have locked options. I’m writing about WordPress because it’s the best, but every application has its extensions.
What to do to avoid losing your nerves and money? Be careful everywhere – at the post office, on the website, on the phone and when talking and inviting people to your home. There are various reptiles crawling everywhere, both metaphorically and literally, as deceitful individuals lurk in the shadows, waiting to exploit any vulnerability. The fewer people who know your secrets, the better, as trust can sometimes be a double-edged sword. Recently, my invoicing program was hacked, an unsettling incident that reminded me of the precarious nature of digital security. Because of this, I had to verify some things thoroughly, ensuring that my data and finances were secure. Disinformation, hacking – it’s all increasing now, creating a landscape where vigilance is paramount. To survive in this world, you need appropriate knowledge and experience; this means staying informed about the latest scams, continuously educating yourself about cybersecurity, and fostering a network of reliable contacts who can share insights and warnings when necessary. In this ever-evolving environment, being prepared can make all the difference in protecting your peace of mind and financial well-being.
But maybe something more specific? First of all, use different passwords for different websites. Do not use simple passwords, use numbers, special characters and capital letters. Don’t use a password that can be guessed. Do not give access to your computer to anyone. Don’t believe what you read and approach everything with caution. Because people can come up with all kinds of traps. People can do evil. If I were to count all the attacks I have been the target of since the beginning of my career on the Internet – it was a lot. A lot.
Are passwords all you need to know? It’s a little more complicated. When recording live, be careful what you show people on the screen. I almost got caught once. You have to think when the camera is on. When and where you enter important information. Don’t give access to your applications to anyone! Password your computer and log off when you are away from your computer. Password your smartphone. Let each application have two-step verification or other inventions that the computer often asks us for. It’s always another gateway for the burglar! Don’t move around with your computer, work at home. Focus especially on data such as PESEL or bank card details. But you must keep an eye on all data and never show it to anyone. The parties use the so-called cookies to facilitate our browser experience. But even with that, be careful. Don’t send anything to anyone.
Sometimes something looks very similar to a bank’s website or another important website, but it is not. This is a higher driving school, which can often lead to confusion for unsuspecting users. We make transactions, and these need to be protected from potential fraud or phishing attacks. When something seems off or if you receive unexpected communication, call immediately and block your account to prevent further issues. It’s crucial to take these threats seriously. Check whether the website shows comprehensive company details, regulations, contact information, photos of the headquarters, or the image of the team members to ensure legitimacy. There must be a green bar next to the website address, the so-called https, indicating that the site is secure. This includes a padlock symbol, which represents encryption of the address and the entire website, ensuring that your sensitive information stays safe during transactions. Remember, when it comes to financial matters, it’s always better to err on the side of caution.
It means that you are somewhat safe, but even that is not enough. Always look for all the signs. If the content of the page is suspicious, the first exclamation mark is used. Don’t give your details to anyone over the phone. It’s better to handle things in person. If the website is a so-called subdomain – this may be a warning sign, but not always. A subdomain is an additional address of the website where you can place a directory with subpages. This is used for translations or larger website elements, but sometimes hackers try to trick us by entering strange strings of characters similar to those on official websites. Always check where the link leads. This is shown at the bottom of the browser.
It’s good to take a computer course. It will definitely pay off in the long run, both personally and professionally. The value of practical skills in computing cannot be overstated; gaining practical knowledge through structured lessons provides insights that are often vastly superior to what one might learn through casual reading or online articles. Writing about it like this is not the same as real cases where hands-on experience and troubleshooting actual issues come into play. This hands-on practice helps build critical thinking skills, which are invaluable in navigating the complex world of technology. Imagination can be enormous, and while it can fuel creativity in problem-solving, it’s important to recognize the potential for misuse of that imagination to deceive someone. Hence, it is crucial never to enable suspicious links or execute any files without thorough scrutiny, especially .exe and similar file types. They may contain harmful viruses that could jeopardize your system’s integrity and your personal information. A good antivirus is essential in today’s digital age, and it is worth investing in a better, paid one to ensure optimal protection. Now, modern antiviruses do much more than just scan for viruses; they help on the Internet by providing real-time protection, anti-phishing measures, and various features that reinforce your online safety. These security measures are akin to WordPress plugins or other tools, each adding layers of security to your digital presence, emphasizing the need to stay vigilant against evolving cyber threats.
Any information can be used against you in various ways. People can impersonate you, track you, and engage in other actions that you might not even be aware of. In this digital age, they often feel emboldened and unpunished on the Internet, but it’s crucial that you don’t ignore these activities. Instead, take a proactive approach and report any suspicious behavior to the appropriate services. Due to such fraudsters, individuals like you and me may face significant challenges with selling a legitimate offer or conducting business safely online. This is especially true because sometimes there is a concerning lack of control on the Internet, which can lead to negative repercussions for unsuspecting users. To safeguard yourself, avoid visiting suspicious websites, as they can expose you to various risks including identity theft and financial loss. These dubious sites can often be verified with special browser add-ons designed to enhance your security, and many reputable antivirus programs also perform these checks automatically, providing an additional layer of protection. Always stay vigilant and make informed choices while navigating the online landscape.
I received dozens of e-mails about an alleged victory – some great win, inheritance, or unexpected fortune. These are all fairy tales, misleading illusions crafted to prey on our hopes and dreams; the chance of something like this happening is close to zero. Don’t trust such people who promise the world with false hopes. Even an e-mail can be so expertly crafted that it appears to be a legitimate correspondence from a bank or trusted institution. However, there are often critical details—such as mismatched email addresses, suspicious attachments, and content that seems off—that can help you identify these scams. The email header, for those who know where to look, hides many secrets, revealing origins and routing information that can be quite telling. Yet, not everyone is aware of these signs. It’s essential to remain vigilant and skeptical. Don’t trust people who claim to be friends, especially if they suddenly need access to something personal or sensitive in your life. This kind of situation is rare and often laden with ulterior motives. Such occurrences don’t typically happen, and it’s wise to prioritize your security and privacy above all else.
Do not store important documents on your drive, as this can lead to potential data loss and unauthorized access. Be especially careful with foreign pen drives, as they can carry malware that compromises your system’s security. It’s crucial to back up your applications and system regularly to ensure you have access to your important files in case of sudden system failures or cyberattacks. Keep your phone with you at all times; it’s a vital tool for communication and navigation. Additionally, write down the phone code, allowing you to track it via GPS if necessary. Always be reasonable and remain vigilant; don’t let bad people triumph over your peace of mind. It’s important to ignore trolls and haters, as they thrive on negativity. Remember, they are that type of people who want to harm you emotionally and mentally. It really is a shame how some individuals find pleasure in bringing others down, but you have the power to rise above their influence and focus on positive aspects of life.
It is also worth being careful when shopping and always reading reviews and checking credibility. It is better to buy through proven platforms where people report scams. An online store without regulations, encryption and no address data is, to say the least, suspicious. I have bought a lot of things online and have been the victim of a few thefts in my life. I was slandered, verbally attacked and I read things that made my hair stand on end. Watch out for missing money for delivery or BLIK. People even generate fake transfer confirmation, I have also experienced such things. I have heard about impersonating someone and this type of fraud, e.g. by promising profits. When something strange happens to your account, report it to the administration.
I wrote this to save you from problems. Maybe this article will force you to think critically. Because lately there have been more and more scams. People are scheming instead of working. Technology is a good thing, but in the right hands. People who cause trouble should be punished. Let’s create a better Internet together! Without all this mess. Beware of text messages from strangers and do not answer unlisted numbers. The phone must also be taken seriously. Because everything here works just like on a computer. Certainly no stranger should play with it.
